The west side of Plantation, out in Plantation Acres past Hiatus and Flamingo, is acreage with detached garages, workshops and the occasional oversized bay, which puts it closer to Southwest Ranches than to the rest of the city in terms of the work. Jacaranda is a different animal, largely seventies and eighties homes around the golf course with standard two car doors that have now cycled through their original hardware. Central Plantation, along Broward Boulevard and the streets north of it, is older still, with sixties block houses, mature tree canopy and openers that predate safety eyes entirely. Any opener without photo eyes should be replaced rather than repaired, because a unit that old will not reverse reliably on an obstruction, and that is the one failure on a garage door that hurts people.
